Cottages and Lakefront Living

My wife, my son and myself very much believe in the cottage concept. We purchased our cottage in 1997. Recently, we had a competitive market analysis (CMA) preformed. It appears that our cottage has appreciated 60% in 12 years.

Regardless of the appreciated value, as a family, we have had some of our more enjoyable and memorable experiences at our weekend home. These include too many to count with family, friends, neighbors and sometimes just ourselves.

There is something inherently relaxing about being on the water. You may very well dislike cutting the grass at home but some how cutting the grass at the cottage isn’t so bad. Your everyday stress is removed. Upon arriving, you begin to forget about the week’s problems.

There is a downside to cottage ownership. When Sunday evening arrives, you realize that you have to return to your Monday routine. Upon leaving, you will say to your cottage, “we’ll see you on Friday”. Having the grass cut when you can’t visit, you very well might be surprised; your neighbor probably already cut it.
